Reasons Not to Wear Makeup
Makeup is a culturally ingrained part of society, but have you ever considered what would happen if you simply stopped wearing makeup? Women everywhere are starting to embrace the no-makeup look, and it’s producing massive benefits for them, both in their personal lives and on their skin. Here are a few reasons why you should stop wearing makeup.
1. You’ll save money
Right off the bat, the decision to stop wearing money will save you money. It’s estimated that women wear $300,000 on makeup during their lifetimes. This is a staggering number, but you don’t have to be one of these women.
Most women are wearing anywhere from seven to ten dollars’ worth of makeup on their faces at any one point, and the decision to stop using will save you money for important activities or savings. Brushes and other skin care take inflate this number even more.
2. You’ll save time
There are many “steps” women take when applying their makeup these days. They conceal, blend, contour, bake, and the entire process is becoming more complicated by day. Imagine not having to go through the hassle of putting on makeup in the morning. With the time you save, you could sleep in for a few more minutes per day or find an errand to finish before work.
You could even go into work earlier in the hopes of leaving earlier. However you would use your extra time, it would be available to you if you stopped putting on makeup in the morning. In fact, the time you save can be used to apply other skincare products, such as tea tree oil, which will help clear your face of acne and help you look smooth without the need for makeup.
3. Your skin will become balanced
Your skin has a natural balance of oil and hydration, but when you apply makeup, this balance is thrown off. Your skin may become oilier when using makeup, and less hydrated, leading to more sensitive skin and some minor problems with the epidermis.
Additionally, you throw your skin further off balance when you remove your makeup by stripping the skin of additional hydration. Oily skin isn’t the end of the world, but you can save yourself the trouble of long washes by skipping makeup altogether, as well as using products to “realign” yourself, like our RosyRadiant bioRiverse cream. You skin will thank you for it.
4. You’ll have less acne
Makeup doesn’t penetrate your skin like other skincare products. Instead, it sits on the surface of your skin all day, which can lead to increased acne and skin irritation. When makeup sits on the surface of your skin, it will often affect the production of sebum, which acts as a natural hydrator and regulates your skin’s “behavior.”
For instance, with reduced sebum production, your skin may act differently in severe humidity or in direct sunlight. This difference of behavior usually leads to increased acne and other skin issues but is eliminated when you don’t wear makeup.
5. You’ll have less bacteria
When you wear makeup, you expose your skin to millions of bacteria. These bacteria sit in your makeup palettes and your brushes, soaking in their perfect, moist environment. Your skin is delicate and sensitive; exposing it to excessive bacteria could cause breakouts or infections, although this is rare.
Additionally, most women apply their makeup in the bathroom, which further exposes them to harmful and unwanted bacteria. To avoid this hassle, you can skip your makeup application and go with your natural face.
6. Your fine lines won’t show as much
Another often overlooked effect makeup is the added definition to your fine lines. Makeup often rests in fine lines and wrinkles, making them more prominent the longer and more frequently you have your makeup on. This effect is noticeable all over but is especially severe around the eyes.
If you notice lines under your eyes you can stop using makeup and use this eye cream to help remove those lines and bags. In addition, when you take off your makeup, you’re really tugging and pulling at your skin, resulting in decreased elasticity and the increased chances new fine lines form. This entire process accelerates aging and leaves your skin drier and more prone to sensitivity issues.
7. Your lashes will look fuller
There are many ways to cause breakages in your lashes when you wear makeup. First, the mere quantity you wear could be enough to cause damage to your lashes. Secondly, sleeping in makeup or not removing it gently enough could also cause your lashes to break.
Once women stop wearing makeup, many notice that their lashes look longer and fuller, due to the lack of stress they’re placing on them. Stopping the application of mascara for just a month will leave your lashes less irritated and less prone to falling out. It will also improve density, leaving your lashes looking fuller and thicker.
